Caramel Apple Slices

  • 2-3 apples, any variety (my favorite for this is Granny Smith), cored and sliced into 1 inch slices

  • 1 lemon, juiced

  • 11oz bag soft caramels

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

  • lollipop sticks or skewers

Instructions

  1. Prepare a baking sheet by lining with parchment paper or wax paper.

  2. Toss or brush apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning; or if you don’t mind browning or dislike the citrus flavor, skip this step.

  3. Pat apple slices dry and let them sit out on towel or paper towel to dry out some (caramel will stick better).

  4. Microwave caramels and heavy cream in a microwave safe bowl for 1 minute. Check and stir if necessary. Continue to microwave in 30 second intervals until melted and smooth, stirring after each interval.

  5. Skewer each apple slice. Then dip into caramel and lay onto prepared baking sheet.

  6. Repeat with remaining apple slices.

  7. Let caramel set and then trim off excess caramel.

*Notes:

Before caramel sets completely, you can add sprinkles or chocolate drizzle or chopped nuts. This is a great activity for your kiddo to help with!
